Frequently Asked Questions – ADHD with Amber
I’ve gathered some of the most common questions I receive about working together. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just drop me an email.
1. How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually held weekly. We can adjust the frequency to suit your needs.
2. What’s the cost?
Sessions are £65 each.
Block bookings: £260 for 4 sessions, £390 for 6 sessions.
3. How do I pay?
By bank transfer, at least one week before your session. Payment details will be sent when you book.
4. What’s your cancellation policy?
Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, will be charged at 100% of the session fee.
To support consistency in the therapeutic work, sessions are normally held weekly. Fortnightly sessions can be arranged where this has been discussed and agreed in advance.
Clients may take up to two consecutive weeks off without charge. If more than two consecutive sessions are missed, the third week will need to be paid for in order to continue holding your regular session time.
This policy helps ensure continuity of the work and allows me to manage my availability fairly across all clients. Genuine emergencies or exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
5. Do you provide crisis support?
No — I’m not an emergency service. If you are in crisis, please contact:
Samaritans – Call 116 123, email jo@samaritans.org (24/7)
NHS 24 – Call 111 (24/7)
In an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E.
6. Is everything confidential?
Yes, unless:
There is a serious risk of harm to you or others
I am required by law to share information
I discuss your case anonymously in professional supervision
7. How is my data stored?
All notes and records are stored securely in line with UK GDPR. You can request a copy or deletion of your data.
8. Can I end therapy anytime?
Yes. You can stop whenever you wish, though I encourage a planned ending so we can reflect and close our work in a supportive way.
9. What if we meet in public?
I’ll follow your lead — you can say hello or walk past. Whatever feels most comfortable for you.
10. I am not formally diagnosed with ADHD. Can I still work with you?
Absolutely. Self-diagnosis is valid, especially for neurodivergent people who have faced barriers to formal assessment. We can work together based on your lived experiences and needs, whether or not you have a clinical diagnosis.
11. Can you diagnose me with ADHD?
No. As a therapist, I cannot provide a formal ADHD diagnosis. Only certain healthcare professionals (such as psychiatrists or specialist clinicians) can do this. I can, however, help you explore your traits, understand your experiences, and prepare for an assessment if you decide to seek one.
12. I am not based in the UK. Can I still work with you?
Yes. I work online with clients internationally. Please note that my practice is bound by UK law and BACP ethical guidelines, and you may wish to check any local laws or regulations where you live.
13. Do you work with other neurodivergences?
Yes. I work with other presentations of neurodiversity.
